Wind Energy in Argentina
As
far as wind energy is concerned, Argentina is a developing country − but one
with outstanding potential. According to the World Wind Energy Association,
only 60 megawatts have been installed in Argentina to date. The combined
factors of excellent wind conditions of 9 meters per second and the growing
need for energy cry out for dynamic expansion.
Above all, project development in Argentina depends heavily on whether the government is able to create reasonable conditions for investment. Due to ongoing problems with the energy supply, the pressure on authorities to find solutions is increasing.

ABO Wind Energías Renovables S.A.
In the beginning of 2006, ABO-Wind founded the
Buenos Aires-based subsidiary ABO Wind Energías Renovables S.A. in
Argentina. The company consists of a team of experts with different
qualifications who plan and build ready to use wind farms and take over their
operation and maintenance. The by now 8-strong team in Buenos Aires has laid
the foundation for ABO Wind to play an important role as wind energy gains
traction.
One example is the 50 megawatt project "Vientos del Secano" which is
nearing the construction stage. With support from the German
headquarters, the Argentinian subsidiary of ABO Wind is currently working on
the final energy feed-in and tariff agreement and arranging project financing.
Our company has lined up projects with a total power capacity of more than 200
megawatts, in order to be able to start with the construction of further wind
farms in a short amount of time.
As a second business initiative, the team in Buenos Aires has begun developing activity and acquiring first projects in Argentina's northeastern neighbouring country. In Uruguay, wind energy is also in its earliest phase of development and the wind conditions there are also excellent. The stable political conditions facilitate investment. In 2010, ABO Wind founded its own subsidiary in Uruguay to be able to sign lease agreements.
As far as wind energy is concerned, Argentina is a developing country- but one with limitless potential. According to the World Wind Energy Association, only 31 megawatts have been installed in Argentina to date- 2 of which were installed in 2009. The combined factors of excellent wind conditions of 9 meters per second and the growing need for energy cry out for dynamic expansion.Above all, project development in Argentina depends heavily on whether the government is able to create reasonable conditions for investment. Due to ongoing problems with the energy supply, the pressure on authorities to find solutions is increasing.
