Wind Energy in Belgium

At the end of 2010 900 megawatts of wind power were connected to the grid in Belgium, 350 of which were connected in 2010. According to the scenario put forth by the European Wind Energy Association, 4,000 megawatts should be erected by 2020.  To meet the expansion goals and the European Union's climate protection guidelines, the yearly rate of expansion must come close to at least 300 megawatts.

ABO Wind in Belgium

For ABO Wind, Belgium offers only limited potential. Therefore, the active search for new locations has been stopped. Currently, three projects in Wallonia are still under way. For the most advanced project a building application might be filed in 2012. 563 megawatts of wind power have been connected to the grid in Belgium to date, 149 of which were connected in the last year. According to the scenario put forth by the European Wind Energy Association, 4000 megawatts should be constructed by the year 2020.  To meet expansion goals and the European Union's climate protection guidelines, the yearly rate of expansion must come close to at least 300 megawatts- double the amount of the preceding year.
