Wind Energy in Great Britain
Climate protection is forcing Great Britain's hand: According to the binding objectives of the European Union, the United Kingdom is obligated to cover at least 15 percent of its energy requirement with renewable energy by the year 2020. However, it is still has a long way to go, as the current share has only reached about 4 percent. In terms of renewable energy, the Scottish government has set its aim even higher and wants to achieve 100 percent from renewables by 2020.
As wind power offers the best opportunities for a drastic increase, a distinct expansion is anticipated during the coming years. The basic willingness to develop in this direction is existent. However, the increase of additional capacity has slightly decreased. While 1,271 megawatts were installed in Great Britain in 2009, only 962 megawatts were connected to the grid in 2010. By the end of 2010 the overall installed capacity of wind power totalled 5,204 megawatts. In any case, the UK still offers numerous possibilities to install highly efficient wind farms.

ABO Wind UK Limited
At the end of 2011, ABO Wind achieved the breakthrough in the UK with the commissioning of the wind park Lairg in the Scottish highlands. This will facilitate the acquisition of further projects. In the next few years ABO Wind wants to connect several wind farms to the grid in Scotland and England. Three projects with a total nominal capacity of roughly 60 megawatts will be submitted for approval at the turn of the year 2011/2012.
In the medium term ABO Wind expects to connect several projects o the grid in the UK. The team now consists of five employees and works on wind parks with a total capacity of 200 megawatts in different planning stages.
The subsidiary ABO Wind UK Limited is located in Edinburgh.
